Sports Recovery Services

Our founder, Dr. Trent Nessler, is not only a sports physical therapist with 20+ years experience but he has also been personally into fitness for 40+ years (was a competitive bodybuilder into his 30s) and is a BJJ black belt.  Not only does he understand the importance of recovery for you as an athlete, he also knows how this personally has added to his ability to do what he loves.

In sports and especially BJJ, you are constantly putting your body under stress.  You are participating in a sport where almost every joint in thebody is manipulated and sometimes to extreme.  And you do this over and over and over again.  This a different mindset.  This is a true warrior mind set.  You need the latest in recovery science.

Red-light Therapy Bed.  You don’t have the money to spend on pseudo science.  It should be research backed and with the right protocols to make sure the time and money you spend gives you the very best physical return.  At The Athlete Lab, we do just that.  We bring the latest and best sports medicine has to offer.  Not a red light sauna but a red-light therapy bed.  Providing you with twice the outcome in 1/2 the time.

Cold Plunge.  Does cold plunge work?  Absolutely and the science is very clear on this.  Maybe you can’t take your first plunge and need to ramp your way up.  Well, we can do that.  With the ability to go from 52 to 34 degrees, we can offer you a protocol to help you adapt for one of the most effective recovery protocols out there.  In addition, we provide specific sports medicine protocols to ensure you maximize every cold second to maximize the impact on your recovery, minimize your risk for injury and take your performance to the next level.

Hyperice Normatec Recovery Station.  What is Normatec you say?  Go into any professional or Olympic athletic training room and you will see Normatec Recovery Stations.  As little as 30 minutes in the Normatec Compression Sleeves results in a physiological recovery similar to a 12 hour rest cycle.  That means you recover faster after hard workouts and drastically reduce your risk for injury.  That is why you see these in every pro teams athletic training room.

IV Therapy.  One of the biggest areas of research right now in sports medicine is the impact that nutrition has on outcomes after sports related injuries.  As a scientist and knowing biochemistry and physiology, we don’t need a study to tell us what we already know.  It is a vital part of your bodies ability to recovery, especially when in a hard competition season and your are training at a high intensity.  With our Mobile IV partner, we can offer IV therapy services onsite.  Combing this with other recovery services that the one two punch you need to take you from an athlete to an elite athlete.

Services built by a warrior for warriors!

Dr Trent can relate and work with me based on my needs/situations which is awesome. Keeps it simple and takes true recovery process step by step to get you on the mat training/competing as soon as possible!

I have had multiple bouts of PT for my low back pain and was recommended to The Athlete Lab.  I was not sleeping well and was not able to train due to low back pain.  Not only did we determine the root cause of the problem but I was back mats in 2 weeks.  Having someone who understands the both the practical and medical side of a sport makes all the difference.

It’s very assuring to talk to someone I can relate to and has been where I am, and knows where I want to be and how I can get there.

Dr. Nessler is a high level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, as well as an avid weightlifter of +40 years. He truly knows what it means to be an athlete, as well as the academic vs practical applications of sports medicine theory.

There is a big difference between a PT that trains in a sport compared to one who just has read about it and learned in the classroom. The one that trains understands the injuries on a deeper level because they have experienced it themselves and see it over and over.
