Sports Recovery Services
Our founder, Dr. Trent Nessler, is not only a sports physical therapist with 25+ years experience but he has also been personally into fitness for 40+ years (was a competitive bodybuilder into his 30s) and is a BJJ black belt. Not only does he understand the importance of recovery for you as an athlete, he also knows how this personally has added to his ability to do what he loves.
In sports and especially competitive sports, you are constantly putting your body under stress. You are participating in a sport where almost every joint in the body is manipulated and sometimes to extreme. And you do this over and over and over again. This a different mindset. This is a true warrior mind set. You need the latest in recovery science.
Red-light Therapy Bed. Red light therapy, employing multiple wavelengths, offers significant benefits for athletes by enhancing both superficial and deep tissue healing. Wavelengths around 630-660 nm target the skin and promote collagen production, reduce inflammation, and accelerate wound healing, which is crucial for recovery from cuts and bruises. Near-infrared wavelengths, around 810-850 nm, penetrate deeper into muscles and joints, providing pain relief, reducing muscle soreness, and improving recovery times. This comprehensive approach helps athletes recover faster from injuries, reduces muscle fatigue, and enhances overall performance by promoting optimal cellular function and improved circulation.
At the Athlete Lab, we use the same red light bed used in the NFL, NBA and UFC. This bed has 4 wave lengths (450, 650, 810 & 980). This requires a large device (size of a sun tanning bed) and will provide you with the maximal results in the shortest time.

Cold Plunge. Cold plunge therapy, or immersion in cold water, provides numerous benefits for athletes by reducing muscle inflammation, alleviating soreness, and speeding up recovery. The cold constricts blood vessels, reducing swelling and flushing out metabolic waste from tissues. Additionally, P3 protein, rich in branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), supports muscle repair and growth, enhancing recovery after intense workouts. During therapeutic sessions (6-10 min) of cold plunge therapy, this P3 protein released which can optimize an athlete’s recovery process, reduce downtime, and improve overall performance by addressing both inflammation and muscle repair needs effectively.
At the Athlete Lab, we use the Plunge tank. This is kept at 39 degrees, has a UV filtration system for cleanliness and water circulation to prevent build up of a thermal layer around you during your session. This optimizes results and provides you with the maximal benefit for your time.
Price – $25 per plunge
Hyperice Normatec Recovery Station. Normatec compression sleeves offer significant benefits for athletes by enhancing circulation and accelerating recovery. These sleeves use dynamic air compression to mimic the natural muscle pump, effectively reducing muscle soreness, swelling, and inflammation. By promoting better blood flow and lymphatic drainage, Normatec compression sleeves help flush out metabolic waste and deliver more oxygen and nutrients to fatigued muscles. This leads to quicker recovery times, reduced muscle stiffness, and improved overall performance, allowing athletes to train harder and more frequently with less downtime.
When it comes to compression sleeves, we use the leader in the industry, NormaTec. Our NormaTec Recovery Station includes all the latest products by Hyperice include heated massage guns, vibrating heated back massagers and heat/cold contrast devices.

Hydrotherapy Lounge Chair. Hydrotherapy massage offers substantial benefits for athletes by combining the therapeutic effects of water and massage to promote muscle relaxation, reduce pain, and enhance recovery. The warm water helps to increase blood flow, loosen tight muscles, and reduce inflammation, while the massaging jets target specific areas to alleviate muscle soreness and tension. This dual approach accelerates the healing process, reduces the risk of injury, and improves overall muscle flexibility and performance, allowing athletes to maintain peak physical condition and recover more efficiently from strenuous training and competition.
Our hydrotherapy bed is the top of the line, providing you with consistent pressure in the most relaxing enviroment. When done as a part of your recovery program or at the end of a treatment session, this is truly a must.

Services built by a warrior for warriors!
Dr Trent can relate and work with me based on my needs/situations which is awesome. Keeps it simple and takes true recovery process step by step to get you on the mat training/competing as soon as possible!
I have had multiple bouts of PT for my low back pain and was recommended to The Athlete Lab. I was not sleeping well and was not able to train due to low back pain. Not only did we determine the root cause of the problem but I was back mats in 2 weeks. Having someone who understands the both the practical and medical side of a sport makes all the difference.
It’s very assuring to talk to someone I can relate to and has been where I am, and knows where I want to be and how I can get there.
Dr. Nessler is a high level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, as well as an avid weightlifter of +40 years. He truly knows what it means to be an athlete, as well as the academic vs practical applications of sports medicine theory.
There is a big difference between a PT that trains in a sport compared to one who just has read about it and learned in the classroom. The one that trains understands the injuries on a deeper level because they have experienced it themselves and see it over and over.
