Clinician Resources

Dr. Nessler has been a sports physical therapist, sports biomechanist, researcher and educator for over 25 years.  With, what he calls a PhD in Functional Biomechanics (a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), Dr. Nessler has learned a lot about human movement, how to manipulate movement and how to develop programming to truly improve movement.  This section provides physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, athletic trainers and strength coaches with access to Dr. Nessler’s CME/CEUs courses, his certification courses and publications he has.  Dr. Nessler is just as passionate about helping his profession move forward as he is about working with athletes to achieve what they thought was impossible.

Dr. Nessler's Book

How To Build A Badass Firefighter was written to help clinicians make the connection between faulty movement patterns and the impact on injuries and performance in first responders. The science is clear: Poor movement patterns increase injury risks and decrease performance.   This 350 page textbook explains the Athletic Movement Index (AMI), a research-based movement assessment that uses 3D motion sensors and lab-quality data to capture and quantify poor movement patterns. The AMI’s movement-guided methodology creates a training program to reduce or eliminate improper movements, offering objective measurements of progress.

Dr. Nesslers AMI Certification Course

Dr. Nessler is considered one of the preeminent authorities in sports biomechanics and development of programming to mitigate risk for injury and improve performance.  As the co-developer of the ViMove+ AMI and the founder of the AMI (athletic movement index), Dr. Nessler has been involved in assessing athletic movement for over 2 decades.  His technology and methodology is used at the highest level in professional athletics and in elite military personnel.  Through a partnership with DorsaVi, his system has collected data on over 90,000 athletes across 5 countries.

Dr. Nessler’s AMI Certification course provides clinicians and strength coaches with the science behind the AMI and how to use the data captured from the ViMove+ AMI to create programming to improve performance and mitigate risk for injury.

Dr. Nesslers BFR Certification Course

Dr. Nessler is considered one of the preeminent authorities in BFR (blood flow restriction) training.  Dr. Nessler has been using BFR clinically and personally for almost a decade.  After being first exposed to it by his colleagues in the NFL, Dr. Nessler has since been involved in device development, program development and research on BFR.  His advanced techniques are used by clinicians at every level of professional sports and elite military settings to optimize performance and accelerate recovery.  In this course, he certifies physical therapist, athletic trainers, chiropractors, physicians and strength coaches in this advanced rehabilitation technique.  This course includes an all star faculty including Kevin Wilk, PT, DPT, FAPTA, Dr. Lonnie Pallos, MD (Renowned Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon), David Levine, PT, PhD, DPT (Professor at UT Chattanooga)  and Lesley Parrish, PT DPT, SCS, FAAOMPT (Troy University Athletic Department).  This course is led by Dr. Nessler and he serves as the lead instructor for the BFR Certification virtual and live lab experience.

Dr. Nesslers Treating The Combat Athlete

Dr. Nessler is considered one of the preeminent authorities in sports biomechanics and development of programming to mitigate risk for injury and improve performance.  As a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, he often considers this his PhD in functional biomechancis.  Combining what he has learned in his doctoral degree and his 12+ years on the mat, he helps clinicians understand the basics of treating the BJJ and grappling athlete.  As a BJJ athlete, he has seen from first hand experience what happens to a BJJ athlete when treated by a PT that does not know the sport.  This course is designed to provide clinicians a foundation from which to build on as they explore the treatment of this unique athlete set.

Dr. Nesslers Courses - Webexercises

Dr. Nessler is considered one of the preeminent authorities in ACL Return to Sport Testing.  With his development of the AMI, the near 100,000 athletes assessed with his technology world wide and what is now considered one of the worlds largest objective movement databases, Dr. Nessler has been able to leverage all he has learned from assessing movement and normative data to help clinicians and physicians make better and more informed decisions on return to play.  In this series of webinars/courses, Dr. Nessler teaches PT, Chiropractors, Athletic Trainers and physicians how we can leverage the ViMove+ AMI, patient reported outcomes, neurocognitive testing and power testing to help provide a movement based approach to return to sport decisions.

Dr. Nessler's YouTube

Dr. Nessler has been a lifelong/career long educator.  As a way of giving back to athletes, he started his YouTube Channel in 2013 and has used it to put some of his best education, podcasts and exercise videos.  With over 60,000 views, it was one way for Dr. Nessler to give back to the communities he serves.  His featured video is his story about a tragic accident with his father and how this led him on the path for PT and to do his part to change the world.
