Creating the Top 1% of Athletes Post ACL Reconstruction

At The Athlete Lab, we are not your typical outpatient physical therapy clinic.  We not only specialize in ACL rehab but our founder, Dr. Trent Nessler, is considered one of the leading authorities in ACL Rehab and Injury Mitigation in the US.  Dr. Nessler has published research in this area, developed innovative programs (ACL Play It Safe), technologies (ViMove+ AMI) that are used internationally for injury mitigation and published a book (The 1% Comeback – Elite ACL Recovery for Athlete and The Specialist That Train Them).  This series of videos are designed for you, the ACL injured athlete.  Here we provide you what you will get as a part of your rehab here at The Athlete Lab or what you should look for in your ACL rehab specialist.

Role of Nutrition In ACL Rehabilitation
Your body is a walking chemical reaction.  How efficiently those chemical reactions occur has a huge impact on how fast you heal.  If you don’t have the proper nutrition on board then your healing will be delayed and limited.  In this video, Dr. Nessler explains the role that nutrition plays in your recovery.

Role of Peptides in ACL Rehabilitation
Short chain amino acids or peptides can play a critical role in your ACL rehabilitation.  There has been a lot of misconceptions about what peptides are and the role in rehabilitation and optimizing outcomes.  In this video, Dr. Nessler discusses the role of peptides in ACL rehabilitation.

BFR and Neuromuscular Stimulation
Early activation of your quadriceps is critical to your long term outcome after ACL reconstruction.  Two things that help with early activation of the quads is BFR (blood flow restriction) training and NMES (neuromuscular stimulation).  Combining these two together provide exponentially greater benefit.  In this video, Dr. Nessler discusses how combining these tow together aids in driving outcomes to the next level.

BFR and the Assault Bike - Taking Your Cardio To The Next Level
Maintaining your cardiovascular conditioning has a multitude of benefits to your long term outcome after ACL reconstruction.  In this video, Dr. Nessler explains how implementing BFR with the assault bike can impact your ACL rehab outcomes.

BFR and Neurocognitive Training
Did you know that in 24-48 hours after your ACL injury that there are changes in the higher centers of your brain.  If you do not do specific training to improve that this can be one thing that puts you at risk for reinjury.  In this video, Dr. Nessler shares how this training is done and the differences in neurocognitive training.

BFR and Force Generation
How you attenuated force has a huge impact on your future injury risk and how you generate force has a huge impact on your future athletic performance.  Measuring and training this is not a typical approach in ACL rehab.  In this video, Dr. Nessler explains the importance of this type of training and how we address.

Developing Killer Quads
Having symmetry in your quads is one of the most important aspects to mitigate your risk for reinjury upon return to sport after an ACL reconstruction.  A lot of athletes never get this back and many as a result of compensatory strategies that develop.  In this video we address tibial inclination and how this can prevent you from developing killer quads with single leg activities.
